shallow foam carving (1 inch thick) 9" X 12" in size
The trick with this project was to carve something and show space and depth with this inch thick board. This was my first carving ever. I wanted to do a landscape with trees. To make it more interesting, I took an abstract twist and mixed 2D with 3D. It looks like a drawing on a desk. At the same time, the trees are popping out of the paper as if it was an actual landscape. There's at least three layers of tree limbs. I don't know how many hours I worked on this, but I've been carving it for over two weeks and I spent all weekend (15+) just finishing it. lol The process wasn't hard. It just involved a lot of planning and thinking ahead. I was very very careful to use under cutting which made all the limbs appear detached from the board. I'm proud of the lighting effects. There's so many cool shadows if you turn the board at different angles. |
